About me
Why this Website ?
This website is in fact a digital notebook. Eventually it will contain all the notes I made during my succesfull IT projects. Each note will contain all relevant and up-to-date info on the particular project. No need any more having to page back and forth in all my computer logbooks I filled through the years. And this digital notebook enables me to share my knowledge with my readers, who might be struggling with similar projects, like I did.
Who Am I?
In my free time I like to do some programming. My first computer was the famous Sinclair Spectrum. It introduced me to Assembler and BASIC. In those days only very large companies could afford Main Frame Computers such as the IBM. So at my company it started with GE Timesharing computing (BASIC, Algol and Fortran). With my next employer I got the IBM PC (MS DOS and C) and later on various laptops (Windows 95, 98, XP, and MS Office). After retirement I installed the free linux distribution Red Hat Linux 9 on a home PC and used it as a server. Of course, I stumbled over the same network problems the computer wizards of the IT department at work had with UNIX, but this time with my complaints they could not hide behind passwords. I was my own administrator! So, with googling I found their problems were not that difficult to solve.
Nowadays I have computing devices running either Apple Mac OS and/or Microsoft Windows 10. My server is a HP Proliant microserver gen8 running FreeNAS. It’s in use for backup (TimeMachine), as webserver, PLEX-mediaserver, VPN-server and so on. And I have the famous Raspberry PI running Debian Linux and use it for home demotics.
But above all, I am spending quite some time on the golf course. Longing to hit that fantastic shot, that makes me feel at par with Tiger Woods.
